Sacramento Kings announces Demarcus Cousins has been traded to the New Orleans Pelicans

The Sacramento Kings have agreed to trade Center Demarcus Cousins and Forward Omri Casspi to the New Orleans Pelicans in exchange for Buddy Hield, Langston Galloway, Tyreke Evans, a top-3 protected 2017 first-round pick and a 2017 second-round pick on Sunday February 19, 2017.

The Sacramento Kings felt it was time to move on from Demarcus Cousins and usher a new era of basketball to the Sacramento area. “It was time for a change and I decided this was the best direction for the organization. Winning begins with culture and character matters,” said Kings General Manager Vlade Divac. The Sacramento Kings thank Demarcus Cousins for his contributions to the organization and the Sacramento area over the last 6 plus years.

Demarcus Cousins was averaging 27.8 points per game and 10.6 rebounds per game this season as a Sacramento King. Omri Casspi averaged around 5.9 points per game during his 22 games this campaign. Rookie Buddy Hield was the 6th pick in this past year’s NBA draft and is averaging 8.6 points per game. Tyreke Evans, a former king who out up career numbers in Sacramento, averages 9.5 points per game this season. Third year journeymen Langston Galloway averages 8.6 points per game this season and has come off the bench and played in all of the Pelicans 55 games thus far.
